About the Kennedy Mine Foundation...

The Kennedy Mine sits on 152 beautiful acres on the northern edge of the city of Jackson, California. Its history began in the 1850's with the Gold Rush, and includes one of the world's deepest mine shats aqnd other historic buildings. The property was owned for many years by Sybil Arata until her death in 1994.

In 1996 a unique and unprecedented event took place in Amador County. A cross-section of residents and organiations worked together to form a non-profit foundation to obtain local ownership of the property.

Since that time, a major clean up and restoration program has begun, and the mine is open seasonally for surface tours.

The Kennedy Mine Foundation Board meets regularly to supervise the improvement to the property and guide its activities. Many thousands of volunteer hours are spent on restoration and historical projects.

The Kennedy Mine Foundation invites individuals, businesses and organization to become sponsors of the Kennedy Mine. The basic individual sponsorship of $20 per year, or $30 per family, will keep you informed of all Kennedy Mine activities via a quarterly newsletter. As you can see, there are many exciting events planned this year!
